I’d like to add something here. While it’s not yet possible to build larger-scale extensions like a full credits or shop system, that’s something that’s coming soon.

The goal is to support more advanced functionality as optional extensions rather than default built-in features. They may still be part of the platform, but packaged in a way that lets board owners choose if they want to use them.

So if you have ideas or suggestions for extensions you’d like to see, feel free to share them - this kind of feedback is always valuable. 😁

I will look to release some resources for Forum Spark, including complementary add-ons.

I think it’s easier for everyone if resources are listed in the ACP, which means developers need to have their resources listed on the developers site. However, there is still a need for additional support. Support that can be given through a topic. Which is why I added a Support URL. Where they want to give that support is entirely up to the developer. So, it doesn’t replace any resource forum, but it’s rather complimentary and interconnected with each other.

Additionally, in the ACP extensions, there will be “official extensions” that are part of our core software, but rather something additional and optional to have and enable/disable per community basis.

But we also want to encourage development from the community, making this as easy as possible. I know it can be overwhelming, as the implementation of extensions isn’t easy. But with some JS, there is already a lot that can be done. Maybe at some point we’ll implement some more “hooks” or even provide parts of the core code to make things easier. But it’s too early to really say.

The ACP right now is bloated, it’s not ideal, it’s not very convenient to find things. Which is also why we’ve been working on a ForumSpark 2.0 where UIX is focus. A complete new theme, ACP, etc. Some UIX is disappearing, some is being added. We’re really trying to lift ForumSpark to the next stage, where FS will be considered a premium SaaS. I’m honestly VERY excited to see this all go live soon.

If you submit a resource through the developer portal, does it automatically create a topic on the support board for it?

Nope, it does not yet.

It would seem ideal to have it done that way, especially in the beginning stages, where there aren't many resources posted. The primary reason is that people need to find a place to seek support for the code.

I figured some people may want to start their own support forum for their own extensions. But it does make sense to automate it in a support topic here.

Having the support topics on the official board would make it easier to find support for the code and make it more localized.

The developer portal is where the real power is. I like this move. I was literally thinking that forums need more flexibility like WordPress plugins. Once the devs has the ability to build and share tools, the community would grow faster.
