Official extensions requests

With our new Developer site, along with the app directory and the ability to easily enable or disable extensions through the ACP, we’re opening the door to a whole new range of possibilities. This allows us to begin developing official extensions - such as a shop and credits system - which is already close to release.

That got me thinking: it would be useful to have a dedicated, pinned topic where you can request new official extensions that aren’t currently possible within our developer ecosystem. We understand this approach has limitations, especially for larger-scale ideas, but it’s a necessary step to maintain the quality and security standards of ForumSpark.

So, if you have any requests for official extensions, feel free to share them here.

Why not mimic something like Xenforo? A Media Gallery that allows for images, youtube videos, twitch videos/clips, tiktoks & rumble?

and perhaps a resource manager where people can link to downloads and other things like tutorials?

Something.....something......dark side.....something something something.....complete....

Hmmm... These are less requests and more ideas.

  • Maybe a "game currency" shop plugin, where people can "buy" things using site currency accumulated from posting to buy things like member group changes, custom participation badges, or custom items the community admins set up for their forum-based games?

  • (I lied, this one is a request; the rest are just ideas) Some sort of script scraping code (if allowed) that tracks all of the threads a person is in on their main/parent account, even if they posted with their aliases accounts? Tracks if they're the last poster or not the last poster. This would be more beneficial to RPs than anything, I suspect?

  • Unnecessary, but might still be fun for some: media playlist we can put on the site? I don't have spotify, so maybe we can link to youtube videos or something and it plays the audio (not unlike playlist/grooveshark back in the days). Maybe come with options where players can decide if they want it to autoplay when visiting the site, not auto-play, loop tracks, hide it all together, and so on?

  • Another one I thought of: statuses with comments. I've seen it on a couple of forums around a decade ago, where people could post up statuses on the sidebar or somewhere, and others could reply/react to said statuses. Not sure if I would use it (might be fun for characters?), but maybe social hubs might?

The shop/credit is already in the works and releasing soon.

I'm not sure about the scraping thing. Could you elaborate on that even further? I think scraping is a bit of a wrong term here too.

Media playlist in the profile or rather generally in the whole board?

Statuses are also coming soon.

Is a media gallery still something that has a big demand? I never really saw them being successfully implemented or widely active.

The resource manager is definitely coming, but this will be a ported version of my Software Marketplace version on Administrata.

Well, i know at least on my site it's used quite a lot to showcase youtube videos, shorts & tiktoks as well as the random image.

Something.....something......dark side.....something something something.....complete....

I also would like to request a Media Gallery feature too to back up Smokey's request. I think quite a few forums could benefit from this feature.

Dang, you're fast!

Now that I look and try to explain these, I'm not sure if these count as extensions... I'll explain anyway, and if you decide this doesn't count, no worries. c:

Here's a link to Fizzy Elf's portfolio. They made an automatic thread tracker for Jcink. It's the only reference I know of. https://fizzyelf.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=79

Theirs has it so it tracks the poster's (e.g. the alias') threads they've started and posted to on their corresponding main profile. I think on Spark, it'd make more sense if it was all consolidated onto the parent account if that's even possible. 🤔If not possible, then automatically tracking threads on their respective main profiles is fine, too.

On the topic of automation, another thing Fizzy Elf has made for Jcink is a "Claims Tracker." It's basically a page that reads how a custom profile field is filled out, and then automatically logs it on said page. (I'm probably grossly simplifying. https://fizzyelf.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=141

If you want live examples, I could message you some?

Edit, I forgot one thing:

"Media playlist in the profile or rather generally in the whole board?"

Whole board, like a widget or something

This is exactly what I came in here to ask about LOL! Roleplayers typically play multiple characters, and it'd be very convenient to be able to track all the characters in one place. If it's not possible to track everything from one account's profile, then it would be great if this type of code could go into a post/topic, and be copied for each alias.

@Cory is this something you can do?

The first official extension has been released: https://support.forumspark.net/topics/credits-shop.50322

Please note: the current release is working but basic. Upon feedback, this extension will be improved.

Possibly, but I've always been confused about what topics the code tracks.

I can make each user have their own gallery, I don't need database and server side for this

Upon the request of @Sir Chivas I've started doing work on a Link Directory extension. It's not finished yet, but the release will happen sometime next week. Here are a few screenshots.

I still have some wiring to do, general polishes, but the idea is there. Feedback or requests are always welcome.

Will that be free to be installed in all forums? or is it gonna be locked behind premium?
