I’d like to request this be a feature please… It’s much simpler than having to faff about with permissions…just enter a pw when making the forum..and click done..sorted….

Thought I’d share my two cents about permissions. They are really easy if you give them a chance. So let’s say you want to create a staff forum, a VIP forum, or a group only certain members can access.

In the forum create section area, you’d go to the Access tab and select the groups you like to give access:

An additional method is creating a new group called for example “Members extra” and granting certain members access to that secondary group. And then basically giving the special forum permissions for the “Members extra” group. Members their groups can be changed in the Membership tab:

This is much more reliable than passwords as they can be passed on to other members who you don’t want access to have for. And additionally, members could forget the password.

Hmm… ok… I’ve done that for now….. It is similar to another forum I use… once you get to a certain type of membership…say a silver member.. you get granted access to a private lounge..BUT…only long standing trusted users that meet certain criteria.. OR.. by personal invite and even then everyone else has a say……I still prefer the pw option though… I only give it to trusted users and no one has ever shared it…. could you consider this option please? And I keep a record of the pw in the staff room so it wont be forgotten….

Had another thought about doing things this way…. I could get users who are miffed they aren’t in this exclusive group and think other users are more important than they are…whereas having a pw protected forum solves that… they just have to ask..no special group needed..
