Users deleting their accounts

Can this either be removed…OR… can there be an option to turn it off? I really hate it…proboards has it and I think it looks awful seeing ‘deleted user’ everywhere… even changing the name..as has been suggested doesn’t

change the fact it’s a deleted user.. If a user wants to flounce in a huff..fine.. I simply change their pw so they cant log in….

It is required by law if a user wants their account deleted that we comply with that. It’s not an option, nor will it ever be unfortunately. What you can do is change the phrasing for the deleted user to something you prefer in the languages.

Personally, I wouldn’t worry much about how it looks, people understand if a user wants to be deleted. It doesn’t change the discussion as the content will always be available from the deleted user.

I dont have an opinion on this either way, and i understand this is a legal issue too but a solution that might be since content itself isnt actually being deleted, just the account itself, is there a way it can keep the original posters name or if not maybe have so you can set it back manually even if the account itself was deleted. That would solve the deleted member and how it appears issue, anyway.

That would still be a violation of the law. It is explicitly required that content cannot be traced back to the original author by name or whatsoever.

Didn’t realize that but would allowing a deleted member’s name to be set manually by an admin still be a violation?

Yes, and there is actually no possibility to set a certain deleted member’s name. The only thing you can do is change the phrasing for the general “Deleted member” phrase.

Having it be say DramaLlamauser for my Drama Lllama forum would look better than deleted, so maybe the OP could go with something like that using their forum name?

Yep, that’s possible as that changes every deleted member’s content.
