Release 1.5.2

Another update is here. This one is focused on polish - fixing a few rough edges across emoticons, moderation tools, and the forum list, with a couple of new additions that have been on the roadmap for a while.

Emoticons

Several emoticon-related issues have been resolved in this update.

Clicking an emoticon from the sidebar picker now correctly inserts it into your post as an image. Previously it was inserting the raw text code instead, which wasn't the intended behaviour.

Typing an emoticon code directly - for example ;) - in a post will now render as an image when the post is viewed. This brings typed shortcodes in line with how the picker works.

Emoticon display size has also been corrected. They now appear inline with your text at the right size, rather than rendering oversized and disrupting the flow of a post.

Finally, emoticons are now cache-aware at the board level. When an admin adds, edits, or removes an emoticon, existing posts will immediately reflect that change rather than showing stale versions.

Posting & Conversations

Message spacing is now consistent whether you're reading a conversation in the inbox or the floating chat dock. The two views were previously rendering differently, which felt inconsistent once you noticed it.

Unread topic titles are now displayed in a heavier weight, making them easier to spot when scanning a busy topic list.

Members & Profiles

The online users panel now links to profiles and shows hover tooltip cards the same way as the rest of the forum. It was previously using a simpler implementation that didn't match the behaviour elsewhere on the board.

Hub profiles will now prefer the avatar from a linked board account when one is available, rather than always falling back to the Hub default.

Guests & Registration

Sign up and registration links are now correctly hidden in menus and empty states when board registration is turned off. A couple of places were showing these links regardless of the registration setting, which was confusing for members on closed or invite-only boards.

Similar Content Widget (New)

Admins can now add a "Similar Content" widget to topic pages. It surfaces related threads based on the current topic, giving members something to explore after they've finished reading. It's configurable from the widget manager in the same way as any other widget.

Admin Panel: Forum Management

Sub-forums are now visible directly in the main forum management list. Previously you had to click into a parent forum to see and manage its children, which made reorganising a nested forum structure more laborious than it needed to be.

Sub-forums can now be reordered via drag-and-drop directly from this view, and their settings, delete, and empty actions are all accessible without leaving the list. If you manage a board with a lot of nested sections, this should make routine admin work noticeably faster.

Theme Customisation

Custom forum row templates now have access to marker variables. This gives coders the ability to build fully custom read/unread indicators within their row templates, rather than relying solely on default markup.

Variable

Value

{{ forum.marker_type }}

default, upload, or fa_icon

{{ forum.marker_icon }}

The correct FA class for the current read/unread state

{{ forum.marker_read_icon }}

FA class for the read (no new posts) state

{{ forum.marker_unread_icon }}

FA class for the unread (new posts) state

{{ forum.marker_image_url }}

Image URL for the current read/unread state

{{ forum.marker_read_image_url }}

Image URL for the read state

{{ forum.marker_unread_image_url }}

Image URL for the unread state

As always, if anything looks off or behaves unexpectedly after this update, please report it in the support and bug forum. Feedback is always appreciated. 😁
