In the interest of transparency, I wanted to share a quick update on what’s currently in development for ForumSpark. This should give you a good idea of where things are headed and what to expect over the next few versions.

Coming in Release 1.2.6

The next release includes a number of new features and a couple of breaking changes for those building extensions or integrations.

New features and improvements:

  • You’ll be able to mark a post as the best answer in forums where this feature is enabled.
  • Poll results can now be viewed before you vote, if the poll allows it.
  • Admins will be able to remove a user’s avatar and reset 2FA directly from the admin panel.
  • Automatic promotion to a new user group based on post count will be possible.
  • The "session expired" warning has been replaced with a cleaner, more user-friendly modal.
  • Admins can now remove a board favicon if one was previously set.

Breaking changes:

  • The frontend_secret used by frontend extensions is being replaced with short-lived JWT tokens. Documentation will follow.
  • The name field is being dropped entirely in favour of username.

Built but not yet released

These features have already been merged and will be included in a future release:

  • Improved spam detection via new heuristic rules.
  • Users can block incoming messages or conversations from others.

Currently in development

A number of new features are actively being worked on. Some are nearly complete, others are still in progress:

  • Command palette for fast, keyboard-driven navigation across the forum.
  • Multiquote support, now in final polish.
  • New custom profile field types: dropdowns and radio buttons.
  • Guest and bot visibility in the online users list.
  • Weekly digest emails highlighting new and active topics.
  • General email notifications for replies, mentions, and other interactions.
  • Post attachments, allowing file uploads in posts.
  • Filtering topics by label within individual forums.

There are also several smaller improvements and some early groundwork being laid for future features.

If you have any feedback, suggestions, or things you’d like to see added to the roadmap, feel free to share them.
