I opened a Discord server and they where discussing online forums. If you wants to start a community today, which one would you go for? Is it the traditional forum, Discord or Slack? In my opinion, forum threads make sense to me. But people have a very low attention span these days. People don't have the patience to reply to long threads again. The internet culture has really changed
If you had to start over today, would you choose Discord, Slack, or a traditional forum?
I would definitely continue to stick to using forums. Especially in this day and age where Discord is forcing users to upload their ID in order to access certain features. Not only that but with a forum, you have complete control and it's easier to find things. Not only that but it's easier to promote a forum than a Discord server.

That ID verification thing on Discord already scared plenty of people honestly. Forums still have something those chat apps don't have and that is structure. When someone posts something useful on a forum using software like XenForo or phpBB, you can find it years later with Google. You can't possibly finding one useful message buried inside thousands of Discord chats.
If I want to run a forum, I wouldn't go down using Discord for everything. I might have a Discord channel for staff but not for regular forum discussion. It doesn't usually work out well on Discord.
I would choose discord because discord has a really large following. I do not like the mobile app of discord and this is why I would prefer PC version of discord.
You have hit the nail on the head. Discord is not a forum at all. It's just a thing that would probably disappear someday. I joined one crypto Discord last year, they are dropping gems but after 2 days, you can't find anything there again.

You might it very difficult to get members to join your Discord channel if you don't have a big pool where you want to pull them from. I some discord channel that have less than 10 members.
