What was your most successful tactic for getting your first 100 active members?

I was checking my stats last night and remembered when my forum had like 7 members in total lol. Those early days were tough. The tactic that worked for me was simple. I joined existing communities and contribute to real discussions there first. Then I add my forum link after providing value. People notice authenticity before promotion. That was how I was able to gain some active members.

I am looking from suggestions from those who have managed to get a lot of active users. My current forum has less than 100 users and only a handful of users are weekly active. Most days, it is only me who post.

It's not easy getting 100 active members. In a forum space, having 100 active members is like hitting a gold mine. 100 active members isn't those who just log in and lurk around but those who log in and post often. I never had 100 active members posting in forums I've managed.

You’re not lying at all. 100 real active members is a serious achievement. Many forum owners deceive themselves with numbers but most users just lurk quietly. Building a community now is harder because platforms like Reddit and Discord already dominate conversations.

Facts! It's social media platforms in general that have drained the energy around forums for a long time. If you see one active forum users, 1000 would be on social media sites. It's not really easy today for forums.

I think that it usually takes time to get that many active members. I know about a few forums where so many members are active. However, it took them years to get to that level. You may also need sponsors for your forums. The more sponsors you have, the more active your forum will become.

Sponsors? my brother, if that's how it’s easy everybody would be so successful. The real problem is getting engagement, not money. Some forums have thousands of members but they are ghost town. I once joined one like that, only the admin was posting
