Grid and Feed: two new looks for your forum home

Not every board wants to have a classic list of categories and forums. While it is dense and familiar, some communities have the desire to customize beyond traditional listings. What changedThe forum home now has four layouts: the classic List, the denser Compact, a new Grid of live section cards with cover images, and a Feed that turns the whole board into one scrollable stream you can reply to without leaving the page. You choose which layouts your board offers and which one it opens on, and ev...

Amazing! I love the classic look but my forum wasn’t suited for that, this looks really awesome!

Consider this an early release as I plan to make more adjustments, and customization possibilities in the future.

Nice work Cedric, appreciate the consistent updates.

On my phone it looks beautiful…on my laptop it takes some getting used to and I’m not sure why.

Happy to hear when you find out. 😊

Remember: it’s device related, so you can have grid on mobile, classic on desktop — or however you prefer.

I think you've outdone yourself again @Cedric . Options are the spice of life.

Quick question though, this doesn't work if you're using a custom template for the index, correct?

I like options. And despite what anyone would say otherwise, I like having options as a member too.

No this doesn’t work using the custom template. I could wire the different layouts in the custom templates though. But I think that may cause more conflict and confusion.

Agreed. Okay, that's what I figured. I'll stick to the custom template, I like what I have going, but this is a great feature. You've added so much since 2.0 it's crazy it's not considered 2.1. 😆

I’m not too serious about version numbers. And we still have a lot planned out for 2.0. 😊

I just noticed on my Android phone i dont see the options to choose between the different layouts, ect. Both Firefox and Brave browser. It appears to be related to screen size as it shows up on the Tablet.

On the support forum? It’s also easily found in the user preferences: https://support.forumspark.net/user/preferences

I’ll have to check on a tablet, since that might be an actual bug.

Yeah, I was referring to the area with the icons that let you choose the layouts. On tablet its as it should be, on a phone it isnt there, i actually didnt see that option in the user preferences though, so at least there is a way to change it. I attached an image, that’s the part thats not there on the phone.

Yes, on the phone that is intentional to keep the scrolling down as little as possible.

Ok, makes sense i suppose. It helps that there is an option in the user preferences.
